TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A new tropical storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday.
As of 5 p.m., Tropical Storm Fernand was located about 405 miles south-southeast of Bermuda with maximum winds of 40 mph.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Fernand was moving north near 15 mph and is expected to turn northeast as it gradually increases speed over the next couple of days.
The storm is expected to remain over the open ocean, moving east of Bermuda.
Strengthening is forecasted over the next 48 hours with Fernand predicted to reach near hurricane strength on Monday. However, the NHC reports weakening is expected to begin by Tuesday.
There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
