A man has died after an accident at a funfair.

A fairground worker in his 20s died after suffering 'serious head injuries' earlier today at a funfair in the North East.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance service were called to Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear this afternoon.

An off duty medic also supported at the scene, the Mirror reports .

However, despite the best efforts of medical staff, a fairground worker in his 20s has died, Northumbria Police have confirmed.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed.
