ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The hand of a city employee at the Uptown Transit Center was allegedly cut with a box cutter, and a 35-year-old man was arrested there Friday morning and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to court documents.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a report of a severe cut on the hand of city employee Ruben Romero. He told police that a man, later identified as Grant Lloyd Steffy, Jr., had rushed at him and security officer Steven Delgado with a blue box cutter, and Delgado pepper sprayed Steffy. Romero was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital for treatment, the documents said.

Delgado told police Steffy was the person who had attacked him and Romero. A surveillance video recorded the incident, the documents said.
