WEST ALLIS, Wis. — Newly-crowned four-time series champion Alex Palou stole the top spot from David Malukas at the last possible moment during IndyCar qualifying Saturday afternoon at the Milwaukee Mile.
Palou was the final car to set a qualifying lap, and in doing so, he knocked off Malukas, who was waiting anxiously to see if he'd earn his first career pole position.
"I just had to wait until the end, and I saw (Palou) come out of (Turn) 4, and I was like, oh, no," Malukas said after qualifying. "It's still good. Going to be on the front row again here at Milwaukee. We have a good race car. We'll see what we can do."
Palou set two laps around the historic mile-long track in West Allis, Wisconsin at an average speed of 162.971 mph, nearly a full mile an hour faster than Malukas and
