Liliana Kolodyazhna recently travelled to the central Ukrainian city of Kryvvi Rih to visit her family. It’s the hometown of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The trip back to Ukraine turned into a nightmare, as Kolodyazhna learned what it was like to be under a Russian drone and missile bombardment.

“You hear the drones, you hear the bombing everywhere,” said Kolodyazhna. “You hope that somebody prays for you. I will just cry, because it was insane.”
And, now that she’s back on Canadian soil, she feels guilt.
“I’m still crying, because my relatives are still there, and I just left them behind,” she said.
