ITHACA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Cornell University announced financial cuts amid "acute fiscal pressure," according to a statement from the school.
In an open letter from Cornell administration on Aug. 22, the school cited "contractions in government funding," increases in employment costs and "an uncertain and unprecedented federal landscape" as reasons behind the budget cuts.
The announcement follows a June announcement regarding plans to review their expenses and restrict campus hiring for the 2025-2026 school year.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration froze $1 billion in federal funding to Cornell on allegations of "civil rights violations" in the form of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
