Assiniboia Downs’ trainer Lorne Fraser is 58 and he’s never worked harder in his life.
Of course, to be fair, he’ll also tell you he’s never had more fun in his life.
Born and raised on a cattle ranch in Bentley, Alta., Fraser has been in the racing industry in one form or another for about 38 years, and although he didn’t get into it professionally until he was 20 — and didn’t get his trainer’s license at ASD until 2019 — he’s now living a thoroughbred trainer’s dream.
“It’s a lot of fun working for Andy,” said Fraser, referring to Andrew Stronach, the man who just might single-handedly double or triple the number of thoroughbred racehorses actually bred in Manitoba. “I’m his stud manager. I’m his property manager. I train his horses, although I call myself a ‘horse-racer’ not a horse-
