PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A 15-year-old boy is facing attempted murder and arson charges after he allegedly threatened his family and then set his home on fire in northwest Portland on Friday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

At about 3 p.m., officers responded to a home in the Northwest Heights Neighborhood after a family reported that their teenage boy was suffering from a mental health crisis and was causing “significant damage” to their home with a hammer.

When police arrived, the other family members were safely outside and unhurt. So officers brought in a crisis negotiation team and tried to contact the boy. After an hour and a half of trying to get the boy to cooperate, officers decided to pull back and follow up later.
