With a 5-1 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday night, San Diego moved ahead of Los Angeles into the top spot in the division -- with Sunday’s finale the only game left to play between these two rivals this regular season. (Key words being “regular season,” of course.)
Nestor Cortes , acquired from the Brewers at the Trade Deadline , lived up to his nickname; he was Nasty. The veteran left-hander retired the first 16 Dodgers he faced and worked six scoreless, one-hit innings.
Cortes’ effort came a day after Yu Darvish had also limited L.A. to one hit over six innings. All season long, only one other starting pitcher (Sonny Gray) had held the Dod
