LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s been almost a decade in the works and Gatton Park is finally open. Hundreds of folks of all ages are here to celebrate.

“I’m very excited because my house is right around the corner, it’s just a great thing for the city for it to be around. And it’s a great chance for everybody in the community to come together and have fun,” Brock Hoffman says.

What once was just an empty lot, is now a place for many in Lexington to come together.

For Carlos Herrera it’s been a waiting game for the park to open. He says he drives past it every day.

“It’s kind of a big deal and it’s nice to come down here and see all the people and see everybody excited about it,” Herrera says.

He’s not the only one who’s excited, his daughter has been looking forward to this day too.
