CLANTON, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Whether you are on a farm or a construction site, experts want you to know the dangers of not protecting your eyes from the sun.

People could develop eye cancer, growths, or cataracts.

“It’s your natural lens, you know if you have a healthy eye it starts out clear, when they’re advanced you’ll sometimes see that the pupil of the eye will look almost white,” said Dr. Randall Pitts, an eye doctor out of Clanton.

He says farmers and other outdoor workers tend to develop cataracts earlier in life.

As always, people should never look directly at the sun.

“Everybody knows you don’t want to look at an eclipse cause that’s when you’re likely to damage your retina,” Pitts said.
