TSET tussle: The Oklahoma State Medical Association, the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association and five other similar groups last week asked the Oklahoma Supreme Court to tell the Legislature and governor to keep their hands off the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust.

Specifically, the groups filed an amicus brief in TSET’s suit to block implementation of a new law that would essentially give legislative leaders and the Governor’s Office direct control of the $2 billion trust.

The Legislature passed and the governor signed House Bill 2783 earlier this year after TSET directors refused to contribute $50 million in TSET funds to a new children’s cardiac facility at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
