The new-look Timbers held their own in their debut.

With all three of their transfer-window additions in the starting lineup, Portland battled to a 0-0 draw against Western Conference–leading San Diego FC on Saturday night in the clubs’ first-ever meeting.

Designated players Kristoffer Velde and Felipe Carballo, along with midfielder Matias Rojas, were the focus in their first match since signing. But against a San Diego side that controlled the first half, their impact was muted — Velde (70 minutes) and Rojas (61 minutes) each managed one shot, while Carballo took two in 81 minutes.
