It's not uncommon for an expansion team to reach the Major League Soccer playoffs. It's extremely uncommon for a first year club to be the first team in the league to secure a postseason spot.

San Diego FC has made it a habit to do things people don't think they should be able to do.

SDFC battled Portland to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium and although the final score might be a bit unsatisfying, the resulting single standings point was enough to officially put San Diego into the MLS playoffs. They're the first team in the league to punch their postseason ticket and remain in 1st place in the Western Conference, three points clear of Minnesota with six matches left in the regular season.
