OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - People in Ottumwa held a parade celebrating “traditional marriage”.
“The history of traditional marriage is as old as history itself beginning with one man and one woman.”
Those are the words of Travis Decker, organizer of Saturday’s “traditional marriage” parade in Ottumwa.
The parade is in response to an Ottumwa city council proclamation in June, honoring pride month. That started a debate on who the city chooses to formally recognize.
And led to a new proclamation honoring traditional marriage, defined as between one man and one woman.
Ottumwa Baptist Temple first lady, Colleen Decker said she’s glad her husband organized the parade.
“It feels like it’s an important thing and it was done, and now we get to celebrate,” said Decker.
