Being a candidate more times than anyone in recent memory — I ran 10 times — some people think I'm still on the Portsmouth City Council. People still tell me about their complaints.
I welcome that, and I listen. It gives me things to write about. Last week, a citizen respectfully complained to me about the city's parking department. As I learned more, I agree there's a problem.
First, let me mention that we have dedicated personnel in that division. In past years I've known parking and meter enforcement staff, and they work hard and put up with stressful moments. Being parking enforcers isn't an easy job. My comments, and the citizen's complaint, isn't about them. It's about the policies.
