ORLANDO, Fla. —

Last week, state-directed crews removed the rainbow stripes from the Pulse memorial crosswalk in Orlando, Florida, that honored the 49 people killed in the 2016 massacre. Shortly after, protesters filled the stripes back in with color.

The protesters, who used paint and chalk to color in a rainbow, included elected Democratic officials.

But just 24 hours later, crews from the Florida Department of Transportation removed the color restored by protesters.

Orlando police and the Florida Highway Patrol were on the scene monitoring the area.

Pride flags and chalk art on the sidewalk remained near the crosswalk.

No agencies have announced whether they will consider vandali
