When rising pitcher Hunter Allen was selected in the Major League Baseball draft last month, it marked a huge step forward on an unconventional path for the Woodmore High School graduate.

The unlikely journey from small-town Woodville, Ohio, to a seventh-round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles has been filled with challenges for the hard-throwing 22-year-old.

Just a few days before his birthday, Allen realized his baseball dream. The 2021 Woodmore graduate selected in the MLB Draft on July 14. He was the 214th overall pick.

Allen was not highly recruited out of high school, where he earned three varsity letters in baseball and two in basketball. He earned a spot on the All-Northern Buckeye Conference second team in his senior season. He then earned an opportunity to play at Owens Comm
