Two Detroit police officers were injured Saturday evening when their scout car was struck by another vehicle.

According to a social media post from the Detroit Police Department, around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, officers were driving in the left lane to make a left hand turn at Gratiot Avenue and Lappin Street when a black pickup ran a red light and struck their car.

Both officers were taken to the hospital.

"People need to just slow down ... trying to get somewhere, flying through red lights, what is it going to save you? Two seconds a minute?" said Jasmin Barmore, media director for the police department. "This could have been a lot worse."

The injuries were not life threatening and the investigation of the crash is ongoing.
