Drivers on the M25 are experiencing significant delays due to a car fire that has halted traffic on the motorway. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, affecting the anti-clockwise lanes between Junction 24 and Junction 25 at Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. The motorway was closed at approximately 3pm, with traffic diverted via the exit and entry slip roads as emergency services responded to the blaze.

This disruption comes during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, with an estimated 17.6 million motorists expected to be on the roads between Friday and Bank Holiday Monday. National Highways has reported that lanes one and two remain closed for vehicle recovery and clean-up operations.

Motorists are currently facing delays of around 60 minutes, with approximately four miles of congestion reported. Authorities are still on the scene, working to resolve the situation and restore normal traffic flow. The car fire has created a challenging situation for drivers, particularly as many are attempting to make getaway trips ahead of the holiday weekend.
