ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) - In the shadow of Pulse nightclub, protestors are refusing to let what they say is a symbol of love and remembrance to be erased.

“We are here, and we are not going away,” Michelle Green said.

Protestors came to the crosswalk outside of Pulse on Friday and Saturday to restore the colors with paint and chalk.

Some made the drive from Cocoa Beach and Polk County.

“I have got kids in the rainbow, I am here for them, here for other people, and here for what happened,” Greeb said.

The Florida Department of Transportation said the rainbow crosswalk, along with more than a dozen others across Orlando, is not in compliance with state regulations.

The original rainbow was installed after the attack at the nightclub that killed 49 people.
