The southern railway in Belleville was opened later Sunday morning after a pedestrian was reportedly involved with a freight train near the Moira River.

Freight trains were seen operating by mid-morning along the line.

Officials with railway line owners Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. (CPKC) did not immediately respond to a media query by The Intelligencer about the incident early Sunday.

Belleville Police released no details by press time.

In the wee hours of the morning, a person said to be involved was transported to hospital and level crossings were closed throughout the Foster Ward area as investigators visited the scene of the incident near Coleman and Dundas streets close to the river bridge crossing.
