The warmest summer on record may come with its fun, but it's had an unwanted side effect too – an "explosion" of fleas, according to experts. ‌

These pesky parasites are often associated with pets , and can cause bothersome itchy welts. However, they can actually infest homes without pets, surviving for weeks without a host. It comes as search for "fleas in homes without pets" have skyrocketed by 3,550 per cent in just 24 hours, according to Bubblegum Search. ‌

Matt Cayless, founder of the pet marketing agency, said: "We've noticed an unprecedented surge in searches about fleas in pet–free homes. ‌
