A cherished Coventry business that has served the city for nearly two centuries has permanently closed. Charles Ager had been selling shoes in the city for 185 years, but Friday marked the end of an era, which many have said is 'heartbreaking.'
Founded in 1840, Charles Ager was based on Smithford Way before relocating to Corporation Street following World War II . Owner Chris Hart, from Kenilworth , said he was 'heartbroken' to be closing in the city where it was first established.
Once a bustling hub with queues along Corporation Street , the building now stands empty, with only a few pairs of shoes remaining. On its final day, a handful of loyal customers visited and were said to be 'in tears.'
