President Donald Trump threatened to send troops to Baltimore and called the city “out of control” and “crime ridden” in a Sunday morning Truth Social post responding to Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s (D) invitation to join city officials to walk the streets and discuss public safety in September.
Trump said Moore needed to “clean up this Crime disaster” before he’d consider joining Moore on a walk through Baltimore. Trump alluded to his decision earlier this summer to deploy Guard soldiers to Los Angeles, saying if Moore needs help keeping Baltimore safe, “I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby Washington, D.C., and quickly clean up the Crime.” He also threatened to reconsider federal funding allocated to repair the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed last year.
