CLEVELAND — A Tuscarawas Valley High School football player is recovering from surgery after being paralyzed following a collision on the field during a game between Tusky Valley and Waynedale Friday night, the player's mother said.

According to social media posts from Waynedale Athletics, Mayson White was carted off the field following the collision, which took place in the second quarter of Tusky Valley's road win over Waynedale in Apple Creek.

Mayson White's mom, Amanda White, said in an update shared by Waynedale Athletics that Mayson fractured his C4 vertebra in his neck, putting pressure on his spine. She said that Mayson's surgery "went really well," Saturday evening, but he remains paralyzed.
