BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football opened the season with a 41-24 win over Sam Houston on Saturday at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
Led by quarterback Maverick McIvor, who threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another score in his WKU debut, the Hilltoppers moved to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in Conference USA play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hilltoppers struck first with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Maverick McIvor to Matthew Henry to cap off a nine-play, 87-yard scoring drive on their second possession of the game.
Sam Houston got on the board with a 40-yard field goal, making it 7-3 with 4:32 left in the opening frame.
The Bearkats took the lead, 10-7, with 12:24 to play in the second quarter on a 55-yard quarterback run.
