Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee won’t be out for a long time.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network , McKee suffered a fractured thumb and could miss Week 1, but it’s not considered a major injury as it’s just the top of the thumb.

Rapoport also said Philadelphia’s trade for Sam Howell on Sunday would have happened even if McKee was healthy.

The Eagles were not happy with sixth-round rookie Kyle McCord being their third quarterback. McCord only completed 15 of his 35 passes (42% completion percentage) against the Jets and was picked off by rookie safety Malachi Moore. He could get waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

McKee could be one of the NFL’s best backups this season and will be the No. 2 once he’s healthy.
