Livonia is considering how to rebuild the centerpiece of the city's popular Rotary Park to repair damage from a tornado in June 2024 that tore the roof off the main pavilion.
Ted Davis, Livonia's superintendent of parks and recreation, told the City Council at a meeting this month the city has received eight bids to reconstruct the pavilion ranging from $829,000 to $1.3 million, far higher than architectural estimates of $600,000, which he acknowledged was startling.
"We were not expecting it to come back this high," he said.
But consultations with qualified companies that didn't submit bids didn't yield lower price tags, Davis said.
