Stiff easterly winds pushed flames up to 30 feet high briefly Saturday evening off Echo Creek Ranch Road before crews were able to hold an apparent lightning fire to 10.6 acres.
They had the fire burning in grass and sage, along with about a dozen junipers, contained by midnight as the wind subsided.
Summit County Fire Warden Bryce Boyer had stopped by to observe the fire scene around 1:15 p.m. Sunday when contacted for an update.
“I’m actually looking at it right now,” he said. He said officials and nearby residents would continue monitoring the burn area, but they considered the fire controlled and he didn’t see anything that would cause him concern.
