The BBC has addressed Hozier's Reading Festival set and clarified why his performance wasn't televised. The Reading and Leeds headliner allegedly had an arrangement with the corporation ensuring his show wouldn't appear on iPlayer.

Hozier graced the main stage on August 22 with a display that transcended mere music, utilising his platform to deliver an impassioned address on causes dear to him, including backing for Palestine, rap collective Kneecap and equality.

Opening his set, he pondered artists throughout history who have employed music as a vehicle for delivering speeches, citing legends such as Nina Simone, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez and Ewan MacColl.
