How do the major supermarket cafes stack up?

I embarked on a journey to four of them to determine which offers the best value for money, cleanliness, child-friendliness, and of course, the quality of food and drink.

I ventured to Asda, M&S, Morrisons and Tesco - and each one left me astounded, though one for less than favourable reasons. The last time I dined in a supermarket cafe, I was likely around 12 years old, opting for a hot chocolate loaded with toppings and a ham and cheese toastie.

This was during a time when the most exciting items on offer were a jacket potato or a pot of tea accompanied by a scone.
