TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center announced the passing of one of its giraffes, Liz, on Sunday.
Liz died at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday. The zoo says it is working to gather more information and plans to share updates in the coming week.
Liz, whose full name was Elizabeth, was born at the Topeka Zoo on Aug. 21, 2018, to her parents, Hope and Sgt. Peppers. More than 1,300 people watched her birth live on YouTube. She was later named after a “very generous supporter,” Elizabeth Stratton.
“We are very appreciative of any mindful comments or letters of support and would love to read any special memories of Liz that supporters want to highlight. Cards for staff can be dropped off in the zoo’s gift shop,” the Topeka Zoo shared on Facebook.
