A suspicious death investigation has been launched after a body was found inside a burned Volkswagen early Saturday north of Kamloops.

Tk’emlups Rural RCMP were called about a vehicle fire on Tranquille-Criss Creek Road and human remains were found inside the black 2019 Volkwagen Golf, which police believe had been stolen.

The B.C. RCMP southeast district major crime unit is investigating.

“Investigators are looking for public assistance in determining the circumstances that led to the vehicle fire and death,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Smart of the crime unit.

Anyone with information about the car or who has dashcam or video surveillance from the area between 3 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday is asked to call the RCMP at 1-877-987-8477.
