CARTERVILLE, Ill. (KFVS) - Police in Carterville are reporting an increase in deer crossings in and around the city.
They‘re reminding people to drive the speed limit and stay alert while traveling through the area, especially on Grand Avenue and other main roads.
According to the police department, you should be prepared for sudden crossings during the early morning and evening hours. If you see one deer, there could be more following it or a fawn following its mother.

They say they have received multiple calls about an injured deer around Grand Avenue and Dent.
Per state guidelines and conservation orders, police say if the deer is upright and able to stand, they are directed to leave it alone.
