NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- The Springfield and New Middletown Veterans' Banner Project served up dinner on Sunday to support local heroes.

The BBQ dinner fundraiser was held this afternoon at the VFW Post #2799 in New Springfield.

"All of the communities that I have talked to about doing the banners before we started this project charged the families, and they're around $200 a banner, and then they put them up for three years," said Carol Landis of the Springfield and New Middletown project. "We did not want to do that. We wanted to do it strictly through fundraising."

Landis said that they receive funding through donations made by local families, businesses and events like Sunday's dinner. During the weekend event, there were dozens of raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing. All procee
