LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Community members got the chance to lace up their running shoes for a good cause on Saturday with the Lansing back-to-school 5k.

This was the first year for the 5k, and all proceeds made helped benefit the Lansing school district’s student enrichment programs.

The programs include athletics, fine arts, robotics, and many others.

Keith Carvotta, who’s the Director of Enrichment Programs and Engagement for the Laning School district, talked about how the proceeds help impact the programs.

“Today’s really about our students,” said Carvotta. “It’s about really doing everything we can to provide them the best opportunities we can in our district. And so when we do these kinds of events and everybody comes together, it brings that community first of all that shows that
