CAHABA VALLEY, Ala. (WIAT) -- A missing youth was found safe in a wooded area near the Cahaba River on Saturday night after a rescue effort by the Cahaba Valley Fire District and the Vestavia Hills Fire Department.

At around 11:25 p.m., the CVFD received a call reporting that the youth had become lost in the woods after separating from a group of friends. Crews responded to a wooded area near Cahaba Park Church and initiated a ground search based on the individual's last known location.

The Vestavia Hills Fire Department assisted with the rescue effort, providing a drone for aerial reconnaissance and a water rescue team in case water extraction became necessary.
