SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
As Sacramento schools head back this month — many students are walking in unprepared, not because they want to — but because they have no choice. Going to school without school supplies is like trying to play soccer without a ball — yet it happens.
That's where Berry Accius, founder of Voice of the Youth, organized a back-to-school supply giveaway to support underserved communities.
"One of the things that I feel like is a part of our mission statement. It's giving back to our community. Not only our underserved community, but our community," Accius said.
Accius explained the motivation behind the event, saying, "Everyone, right now, is feeling the hit financially. Economically. So we do events like this, backpacks, school supplies giveaway, and create a party atmo
