ROSELAND, La. (WAFB) - Tangipahoa Parish officials have ordered an emergency closure for a portion of the Tangipahoa River as crews continue responding to the Smitty’s Supply fire in Roseland.

According to the proclamation, the Tangipahoa River from Highway 10 to Highway 22, along with all connecting navigable waterways, is now closed to all marine traffic until further notice. The only exception will be for booming and emergency activities tied to the response.

The closure took effect immediately on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Officials say the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will patrol the restricted areas and issue fines to violators.
