BUNA, Texas — A Vidor man was arrested Saturday after allegedly assaulting a woman and stealing her cell phone in the parking lot of a Buna ballpark, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 5 p.m. August 23 to County Road 819 near the Little League ballpark after reports of a robbery.

Investigators learned that 21-year-old Kenneth Phelps, of Vidor, allegedly assaulted the mother of his child during a dispute and took her phone. Authorities said Phelps struck the woman several times with a closed fist on the left side of her face, causing pain and injury.

Although smaller than Phelps, the victim attempted to fight back and retrieve her phone but was unsuccessful according to deputies at the scene.
