For the first time since 2023, when he led Rutgers to its first winning season in nearly a decade, Gavin Wimsatt is set to be a starting quarterback once again.

The former Scarlet Knights signal-caller, who transferred to Jacksonville State this offseason after one year at Kentucky, was named the starter for the Gamecocks’ season-opener against UCF on Thursday night, head coach Charlie Kelly announced Sunday.

The Kentucky native, who played eight games for the Wildcats last season, beat out fellow transfer Cade Cunningham and returnee Caden Creel for the job.
