VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia State Police is investigating a shooting that involved an off-duty Virginia State Police Special Agent.
The shooting happened at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the officer’s residence, according to a state police press release. It happened in the Bay Colony area.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 40-year-old man came to the front door of the agent’s home and attempted to break in, according to the state police.
The agent confronted him and shot the man, who later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, police said.
The off-duty agent suffered moderate injuries and also was taken for medical treatment.
