JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - Students are back in the classroom as schools open across eastern Iowa.
For parents of younger students, the home to school transition could be a challenge, the district is focused on ensuring that transition is as smooth as possible.
“Whether it’s preschool, kindergarten, high school, college those firsts are always those big transition points,” Matt Degner, Superintendent of the Iowa City Community School District, said.
It’s also now state law that all schools have a cell-phone policy. Iowa City was ahead of the curb and began its policy at the beginning of the year.
“I’m not sure the kids would say it’s popular all the time,” Degner said. “I think we’ve seen some really good results on attendance, on tardies between classes and then on overall engageme
