HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - Evansville city leaders are expected to vote on a new "wheel tax".

They're expected to approve it, stating the money would go straight to road repairs.

If passed, vehicle registration would cost $25 more a year, motorcycle registration would cost $15 extra and heavy trucks registration would cost $35 more.

City officials estimate the tax could bring in about $2.7 million to fix roads.

Some residents have said they understand the need for a “wheel tax” but feel many people aren’t aware of how elected officials are using their tax dollars.

Mount Vernon, Indiana leaders voted against its own "wheel tax" earlier this month.

The meeting is expected to start at 5:30 p.m. at Room 301 in the Civic Center.
