LAPORTE — Kevin Labaj has been here before.

LaPorte's first-year head coach spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Chesterton. During his time there, he saw the Trojans' rise from a young team to winning their first sectional title in 47 years.

Now, Labaj finds himself in the head coaching chair, helming a young, talented Slicers team. Just three seniors tried out for this year's team — and three seniors made the team.

He saw the talent LaPorte had while he was on the Chesterton sidelines. While the Slicers had a senior-heavy group last season, there was young talent. Returning senior Lilly Buckley ranked 10th in the Duneland Athletic Conference in assists, senior Tessa Koepke ranked fourth in blocks and junior Madison Copeland was 10th in blocks.
