NEWBURGH – This year has seen significant development in the private and not-for-profit sectors and 2026 may be the year for the city to take some significant redevelopment efforts.

Converting the old armory in lower Broadway into city hall has been an idea that has been discussed in recent years and now, Mayor Torrance Harvey told Mid-Hudson News they are going to take a serious look at in the months ahead.

“We are trying to finalize some things with the IDA and the armory on Broadway, not the armory on South William, but the armory on Broadway, which the city IDA owns, and the city council wants to relocate city hall to the armory and we’re talking about relocating the police department there as well,” he said.
