WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will end cashless bail in D.C. Monday morning by executive order, the White House confirmed.

Bail reform, also known as cashless bail, has been in place in D.C. since 1992. The law bans the court from setting a monetary bail that, if not paid, would keep a suspect in jail ahead of a trial. There are some exceptions, including if the court finds that the person poses a danger or may flee.

As a part of the federal takeover in D.C., Trump has said on a few occasions that he intends on bringing cash bail back to the District. On Aug. 13, he said he would start with D.C. and eventually end bail reform for the whole country.
