Reggie Carroll, a Baltimore-based stand-up comedian, died in a shooting Aug. 20 in Southaven, Mississippi, authorities confirmed. He was 52.

When authorities responded to reports of a shooting, they found Carroll suffering from headshot wounds, a release from the Southaven Police Department said. While officers and medical personnel provided "life saving techniques," Carroll succumbed to his injuries, the release confirmed.

One man was in custody following the shooting and charged with Carroll's death, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing.

Carroll, who toured across the country with his comedy routine, also appeared in the 2023 special "Knockout Kings of Comedy" and the 2022 TV movie "Rent & Go."

On Instagram, he was remembered by Mobtown Comedy, a stand-up collective in Baltimore, known for pulling together the city's talent for open mics and live sets.

"Rest in power," the production company wrote alongside an image of Carroll and praying hands emoji. "Thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family."
