Portage la Prairie RCMP arrested a man Thursday after a disturbance involving a weapon at an apartment on Saskatchewan Avenue East. Article content

Police received the call at about 1:30 p.m. and arrived to find a man yelling threats from a third-story window. Witnesses told officers the suspect had been waving a hatchet while shouting at people on the street.

Officers contained the residence and repeatedly called for the man to surrender, but he refused to leave. An entry warrant was obtained, and members of the Manitoba RCMP Emergency Response Team entered the suite and arrested the suspect without further incident.
